A STRANGE DAY: CARLA “URAGANO” MARCIANO FA ANCORA CENTRO

Tra i tanti casi di donne dal grande ed assoluto talento artistico vi è sicuramente la sassofonista CARLA MARCIANO, che dalla prima volta che la sentii suonare dal vivo ribattezzai CARLA “URAGANO” MARCIANO per la sua incontenibile vena improvvisativa. E’ appena uscito un suo splendido CD, intitolato “A STRANGE DAY”, pubblicato dalla “Black Saint”, che non solo conferma la singolare capacità tecnica di questa grande artista salernitana, ma evidenzia, in ogni brano, un’ulteriore evoluzione creativa e compositiva. Carla “Uragano” è, come sempre straripante di potenza comunicativa, “verace”, vibrante, davvero incontenibile. Una quasi “spudorata” passionalità che ti colpisce diretta al cuore ed allo stomaco, con una forza espressiva ed una velocità di fraseggio che nemmeno Muhammad Alì dei tempi migliori sarebbe stato capace di “schivare”! Vorrei comunque rassicurare sul fatto che la mia militanza nel Jazz è quasi quarantennale e non sono così sprovveduto ed ingenuo da farmi impressionare da virtuosismi incredibili, scambiandoli per valori assoluti. Nelle performances improvvisative di Carla “Uragano” Marciano l’irruenza del fraseggio è sempre sostenuto naturalmente da un profondo “bisogno” interiore, da un connubio inscindibile tra l’intima natura di questa grande musicista e la sua esternazione musicale. Non vi è mai una nota “sprecata” per fare “teatrino”, perchè il “teatrino” non è assolutamente compatibile con il grande pudore e la grande serietà professionale della Marciano, per la quale suonare è come guardarsi allo specchio, anche impietosamente, senza trucchi e senza falsità, a “viso aperto” con la spontaneità e la sincerità di chi accetta di mettersi in gioco totalmente, accettando tutti i “rischi”, ma anche l’ebbrezza dell’avventura di un percorso imprevedibile ed affascinante, che solo il grande, libero Jazz, può far vivere. “A Strange Day” è e resterà una “pietra miliare”, un momento creativo dai grandi valori, oserei dire quasi “assoluti”, che ci rende profondamente orgogliosi di una musicista capace di affrontare a testa alta i confronti più ardui a livello internazionale. Tecnica e cuore, fantasia ed originalità, forza evocatrice e pulsante vivacità comunicativa, “gestite” con grande professionalità e genio, che sono state sostenute ed esaltate da un’ensemble ottimo, costituito da grandi musicisti, non solo di affermato prestigio ed esperienza come il contrabbassista Aldo Vigorito, tra i più bravi e riconosciuti strumentisti, che per tutta la durata del progetto si manifesta quale stupendo, solido punto di riferimento ritmico del quartetto, ma anche giovani emergenti come il pianista Alessandro La Corte ed il batterista Gaetano Fasano, entrambi speciali “compagni” d’insieme ma anche valorosamente all’altezza in ogni possibile performance creativa. Insomma, un grande CD che potrà regalare solo grandi emozioni a chiunque goda di un minimo di sensibilità musicale e che si afferma come tra “le punte di diamante” delle pubblicazioni Jazz di quest’anno. Questo è uno di quei casi nei quali sarei felice di poter essere tra quei critici in grado di poter esprimere il proprio parere nel “Top Jazz” che ogni anno segnala i migliori talenti in circolazione. Non sono tra quelli, ma il sito di “AnimaJazz”, nella sua estrema modestia è sicuramente presente nel sostenere ed esaltare il lavoro di questa che a mio modesto parere è una tra le più grandi musiciste che l’Italia del Jazz (…e non solo…) abbia mai avuto!

A STRANGE DAY: CARLA “HURRICANE” MARCIANO HITS THE TARGET ONCE AGAIN

Among all the greatly talented artists we can undoubtedly mention the saxophonist CARLA MARCIANO, CARLA “HURRICANE” MARCIANO, as I have called her since the first time I heard her playing, because of her unrestrainable improvising vein. “A STRANGE DAY”, a wonderful CD of hers has just been released by “Black Saint”, and it confirms this artist’s unique technical ability, also pointing out, in each piece, the further creative and communicative evolution of this artist from Salerno. Carla “Hurricane” shows, as usual, an overflowing communicative power, that is ” true”, vibrant, unrestrainable indeed. Her almost “impudent” passionate attitude hits you straight to the heart and punches you in the stomach, with such an expressive strength and fast fraseggio that even Muhammad Alì wouldn’t have been able to “dodge her blows”! Nevertheless I’d like to reassure you as I have had a forty year jazz experience and I am not incompetent and naive to be impressed by incredible virtuoso performances, mistaking them for absolute values. In Carla “Hurricane” Marciano’s improvising performances the impetuous fraseggio is always naturally supported by a deep inner “need”, by an inseparable union of this great musician’s intimate nature and her musical expression. None of the notes is “wasted” to “show off”, as this showing off is absolutely not compatible with Marciano’s great reserve and professional seriousness, as for her playing is like looking at herself in a mirror, even pitilessly, with no tricks and lies, but always “openly”, showing both the spontaneous sincere attitude of those who accept to stake on it, taking all the “risks”, but also the thrill of an adventurous unpredictable fascinating path, that only the great free Jazz can make you experience. “A Strange Day” is and will be a “milestone” , a creative moment full of great values, I would dare say almost “absolute ones”, and we feel proud of this musician able to face the toughest comparisons at an international level, keeping her head high. Technique and heart, fantasy and originality, evocative strength and pulsing communicative liveliness, “run” with great geniality and professional skills and supported and praised by an excellent ensemble, made up of musicians of great prestige and experience, such as the double bass player Aldo Vigorito, one of the greatest recognised talented musicians, who is the quartet’s solid rhythmical point of reference throughout the whole project, but also of young emerging talented musicians, such as the pianist Alessandro La Corte and the drummer Gaetano Fasano, both special “companions” of the band but also bravely up to any possible creative performance. In short, it is a great CD that can offer only great emotions to anyone having a little musical sensitiveness, and that states to be one of the best jazz releases this year. This is one of the cases when I would be glad to be among the critics able to express an opinion in “Top Jazz”, that every year draws the attention to the best talented artists on the stage. I am not among those ones, but “AnimaJazz” site, with its extreme modesty is surely ready to support and celebrate the work of this artist, who is, in my modest opinion, one of the greatest musicians that the Italian Jazz (…and not only the Italian one…”) has ever had!
